Back in February we had an amazing time at the first Phone Free February collage workshop! ✂️🖼️
The event was held at La Raposa, a vegan bar and feminist bookshop in the neighbourhood of Poblesec, Barcelona. A group of 17 challenge participants gathered to disconnect from their phones and dive into the world of collage art.
We invited everyone to leave their phones in a box at the entrance, so the workshop itself was entirely phone-free. This allowed us to be completely present in the activity, without being distracted by messages and notifications.
The topic of the workshop was “Reimagining the News”, which sparked interesting conversations as the participants flicked through old magazines and newspapers to find inspiration. We reflected on what kind of news we would like to see, the stories that go untold, and the headlines we dream of reading.
There was a tangible sense of calm and focus as everyone chopped, glued, and created unique pieces of art, all while enjoying good company. It was so refreshing to see everyone embrace this time offline and really connect with each other through their creativity.
At the end of the workshop, participants laid their collages on the tables for all to see. Some of us (reluctantly!) fetched our phones from the box to take some photos. You can check them out below and relive the evening with us!
A huge thanks to everyone who took part in this event, and especially to the team at La Raposa for hosting us in such a welcoming space, and to our dear friend Nadine for co-facilitating with such warmth.
This event gave us lots of ideas for more phone-free gatherings — so stay tuned! Until then, keep creating, stay curious, and don’t forget to take a break from your screen every once in a while. 🌿✨
